Details
The Schoolroom is a characterful private residence in Farnham, Surrey, set on the edge of Alice Holt Forest within the protected landscape of the South Downs National Park. Though not a listed building or conservation area property, its sensitive setting called for fenestration that would respect the building’s original character whilst meeting modern performance standards.
Lomax + Wood carried out a full site survey before manufacture, ensuring every unit was precisely specified to suit the varied window set-backs across the property. Having chosen a Gold installation package, the clients benefited from Lomax + Wood’s expert installation and removal of the old windows.
The made-to-order package – drawn from the Kensington & Chelsea range and finished in Gin 37 – included a number of considered details: extended jamb liners to conceal the spring balances, traditional bead mould to the external liners matched to the original fenestration, and individually specified cill projections across the elevation. Concealed trickle vents and brass PVD ironmongery completed the package, finished throughout in RAL 9001.
The result is a property that reads as entirely coherent – windows and doors that feel as though they have always been there, whilst quietly delivering the performance and durability that modern living demands. The Schoolroom is a fitting example of how thoughtful specification and skilled craftsmanship can bring a building back to life without sacrificing an ounce of its original charm.
