Details

Specialist timber window and door manufacturer Lomax + Wood completed a bespoke roof lantern project for the Zetter Hotel in Bloomsbury, delivering a made-to-order solution that respected the building’s conservation area setting.

The project, located in London’s Clerkenwell Green Conservation Area, demonstrated Lomax + Wood’s capability to work within sensitive heritage contexts whilst meeting modern performance standards.

Following a detailed site survey, Lomax + Wood supplied and installed a roof lantern crafted from engineered sapele timber. The design incorporated eight top-hung opening casements integrated into the lantern’s side frames, providing ventilation. The roof lantern featured double-moulded rafters with detailed internal edges, finished in Farrow & Ball’s Inchrya Blue (shade 289) for both internal and external side frames. External roof cappings were painted in Slate Grey (BS-00-A-13).

The glazing specification included Bioclean 4/16/4 toughened units with argon fill, low-emissivity coating and solar control properties, achieving a U-value of 1.0 W/m²K. This specification ensured thermal efficiency whilst allowing natural daylight to flood the interior space below.

Working within the Clerkenwell Green Conservation Area required careful attention to materials, finishes and proportions. Lomax + Wood’s in-house design team worked closely with the project requirements to ensure the roof lantern met both planning expectations and the operational needs of a busy London hotel.

This project exemplified Lomax + Wood’s made-to-order service, where each product is manufactured to specific architectural requirements.
