Remembering Bill Oddie: A lasting legacy for conservation

We were saddened to learn of the passing of Bill Oddie on 25 July, and wanted to take a moment to reflect on his remarkable contribution to conservation, and what it means for the work we support through our partnership with the World Land Trust.
Bill was far more than a familiar face on our screens. As a long-standing supporter and Trustee of the World Land Trust (WLT), he spent decades championing the protection of threatened habitats and inspiring people across the UK to care about the natural world. It’s a legacy that continues to shape WLT’s work today, and one that resonates deeply with us here at Lomax + Wood.
Our partnership with the World Land Trust

Sustainability has always been central to how we operate. All of our timber is sourced through FSC® and PEFC Chain of Custody certification, meaning every window, door and orangery we make is fully traceable back to responsibly managed forests.
Alongside this, we are proud to support the World Land Trust. For every product sold, we donate £1 to their Buy an Acre scheme, helping protect vital habitats around the globe.
To date, we’ve secured over 100 acres of threatened habitat through our work with the World Land Trust, and the Trust has secured more than 2,835,984 acres in 20 different countries.
The people behind the protection
Bill understood that the acres we help fund through Buy an Acre aren’t just protected on paper – they’re protected by real people, often working in difficult and remote conditions. WLT’s short film, Voices from the Wild, follows rangers across Africa, Armenia, Colombia and Pakistan, putting a human face on conservation work that can otherwise feel abstract.
It’s exactly the kind of work our partnership with WLT helps to sustain, thanks to the training and equipment supported by initiatives like WLT’s Keepers of the Wild programme.
Why this matters to us
As a timber window and door specialist, we rely on the world’s forests every day. Supporting an organisation that protects those same landscapes – and the people defending them – is a responsibility we take seriously.
Bill Oddie understood better than most that conservation isn’t a single grand gesture, but the sum of many smaller, consistent efforts: sustainable sourcing, habitat protection, and support for the people on the ground doing the hard work. It’s an approach we try to reflect in our own business, one product at a time.

Building a greener future, together
We’ll continue to support the World Land Trust’s mission in Bill’s memory, and in recognition of everyone still working to protect the world’s threatened habitats. By choosing timber from Lomax + Wood, you’re helping fund the ongoing protection of vital habitats worldwide.
