Frequently Asked Questions

Explore answers to common queries about our bespoke wooden windows, from customisation options to installation and maintenance tips.

Are wooden windows more expensive than uPVC?

While wooden windows are more expensive than uPVC, they offer significantly better value through their lifetime. Quality timber windows can last 60+ years, and offer excellent thermal efficiency and performance.

Do you supply timber windows throughout Kent?

Yes, we supply and install timber windows across all areas of Kent, including Canterbury, Maidstone, Tunbridge Wells, Ashford, Dartford, and coastal areas. We offer flexible packages ranging from supply-only to site survey, removal of old windows and installation of your new windows.

How often do wood windows need repainting?

If done correctly with good quality products, timber window frame paint should last between five and ten years. The same applies to wood stains on hardwood windows.

Is hardwood or softwood better for windows?

Hardwood or softwood can be used to make timber casement windows, and each has pros and cons. Softwoods are machined to a smooth finish and can be painted any colour. Hardwood is generally best left natural with just a coat of stain. Hardwood is marginally less flammable. Ultimately, it is a case of which type will look best on your property.

Are wooden window frames better than uPVC?

That’s a subjective question, but we would certainly say timber windows have several advantages over uPVC. They look more natural and tend to positively impact value, especially on older properties. Timber is also more sustainable and works out much more cost-effective than uPVC in the long term.

Can you work on listed buildings and conservation areas in Kent?

Absolutely. We have extensive experience working with listed buildings and conservation areas across Kent. Our windows meet English Heritage requirements and we understand local planning restrictions and conservation officer requirements.

Are your timber windows suitable for modern new builds in Kent?

Definitely. Our timber windows are popular with architects and developers for premium new build developments. They meet all current building regulations including Part L energy efficiency requirements.

Can you match existing window styles for Kent period properties?

Yes, our made-to-order service means we can replicate existing window details and styles to maintain architectural consistency in period properties throughout Kent. Our skilled craftsmen can create a multitude of styles from a wonderful front door to new sash windows complete with thermally efficient double glazing.
