Details
When homeowners in the Brent Pelham Conservation Area needed to replace their existing windows and doors, they faced a familiar challenge: maintaining the heritage character of their property whilst achieving modern energy efficiency. Working within conservation area restrictions requires specialist knowledge and careful planning to satisfy both aesthetic requirements and building regulations.
Lomax + Wood began with a thorough site survey to assess the existing fenestration and understand the client’s specific needs. The brief was to replace all windows and doors on a like-for-like basis, preserving the original appearance whilst delivering contemporary performance standards. This approach would respect the conservation area’s architectural integrity whilst bringing the property up to current thermal efficiency requirements.
The solution comprised 19 flush casement windows, three single doors, and one French doorset, all manufactured from engineered Sapele hardwood. This premium timber offers exceptional durability and stability, with engineered construction providing superior resistance to warping and moisture movement compared to traditional solid timber.
A distinctive dual colour specification was selected to create visual authenticity. Frames were finished in RAL9010 Pure White internally to complement the interior, whilst an Ebony stain was applied externally for a traditional, heritage-appropriate appearance. The casements and door leafs were finished in RAL9010 throughout, creating a crisp aesthetic that works with both colour schemes.
Lomax + Wood’s Gold Package supply and installation service provided a single point of contact throughout, from initial survey to final installation. This approach gave the clients confidence that every aspect would be coordinated and completed to the highest standards, with full consideration of conservation area requirements.
The completed installation successfully preserves the property’s heritage character whilst delivering outstanding thermal efficiency, weather performance, and security – demonstrating that conservation area properties can achieve modern comfort without compromising architectural integrity.
