Details
This detached property sits within extensive grounds in the village of Peldon, south of Colchester — an area defined by period cottages and historic buildings. Any renovation work needed to be sympathetic to the character of the local area while delivering modern performance standards. The homeowners chose Lomax + Wood to provide a bespoke timber window and door package that would strike precisely that balance.
Following a detailed site survey, Lomax + Wood manufactured and supplied the complete package on a supply-only basis, with the client arranging their own installation. All 24 timber flush casement windows were crafted from engineered Redwood and factory finished in a dual-colour scheme — Farrow & Ball Stony Ground No.211 externally and RAL 9010 internally — providing a warm, heritage-appropriate exterior tone alongside a clean white interior. The 9mm antique lead glazing bars and polished chrome ironmongery lend an authentic period aesthetic in keeping with the surrounding village.
The door package includes a bespoke entrance door with a stained glass panel, two single doorsets, a French doorset, and eight timber bifold doors. The bifold doors open up the rear of the property to the gardens and countryside beyond, flooding the living spaces with natural light while maintaining the traditional character of the home. Every product was finished to match, creating a consistent architectural style throughout.
With FSC or PEFC certified engineered Redwood used across the entire project, the specification delivers both long-term dimensional stability and responsible timber sourcing — a home that belongs in its surroundings yet is built to perform for decades to come.
