Timber is the authentic choice for the county’s period homes, but its appeal goes well beyond appearance. Our windows are crafted from engineered, knot-free timber for strength and stability, and are supplied factory-finished with a spray-applied micro-porous paint system that allows the wood to breathe.
Performance is built in rather than bolted on. Our sash windows can achieve U-values as low as 1.1 W/m²K and our flush casements as low as 1.0 W/m²K, while independent BM TRADA testing gives our acoustic-upgrade flush casement a rating of 42dB and our box sash 38dB. Windows and doors are internally glazed and tested to PAS 24 security standards.

In Margaretting, as part of an ongoing partnership, we supplied energy-efficient, double glazed Georgian-style spring balance sash windows from our Kensington & Chelsea range, chosen to bring as much natural light as possible into the property. The project included 22 sash windows, two sash bays, French doors with sidelights and a double entrance door, all crafted in engineered redwood with sapele cills, 20mm Ovolo glazing bars and a three-coat factory finish in RAL 9010 white.
For a 17th-century Essex farmhouse, draughty single glazing and poor modern replacements were replaced with 30 flush casement windows and eight traditional cord and weight box sash windows, all conservation area approved. The result proves that high-performance double glazing and authentic historic sightlines can sit comfortably together. When architects set out to transform a traditional Essex barn into a contemporary family home, we supplied and installed 23 units, including 18 flush casement windows, bi-fold doors and two bespoke triangular feature windows that follow the barn’s roofline. That’s a subjective question, but we would certainly say timber windows have several advantages over uPVC. They look more natural and tend to positively impact value, especially on older properties. Timber is also more sustainable and works out much more cost-effective than uPVC in the long term.
